Ryan and I visited Spain for the first time in September. We fell completely in love with the Basque region. San Sebastian was way more chic than we expected, and I basically felt under-dressed everywhere we went. Shouldering into pintxos bars packed with locals each night to order from Spanish chalkboard menus I couldn’t read and scarf down the tastiest bites of food I didn’t recognize while swigging local wine was SO.MUCH.FUN. Gorgeous hikes, surfing in the middle of the city, cheap wine, delicious food, stellar shopping, and friendly people made for one perfect destination. Oh, and the San Sebastian Film Festival was in full swing, meaning there were red carpets and step-and-repeats set up everywhere, and glamorous viewing parties happening each night.
Favorite pintxo bar: Borda Berri
Favorite sit down meal: Restaurante Narru
Favorite treat: super thick, dark hot chocolates at Argitan
Favorite restaurant with a view: Restaurante Nineu
Favorite activities: Surfing at Playa la Zurriola, hiking Monte Urgull, funicular to Monte Igueldo
The drive from Barcelona was full of road side vistas the begged for pulling the car over.
