Engagementversary at The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island

February 12th marked 6 years from the day Ryan asked me to marry him. We always celebrate Valentine’s Day on February 12th to avoid the crowds and honor our “engagement-versary.”   This year we booked a weekend at The Sanctuary on Kiawah Island, which is just 35 minutes from our house on James Island but feels a world away from home.  It’s the off season so it was delightfully quiet in this little corner of paradise. Ryan surprised me with a spa day at Sasanqua, while he went exploring on his skateboard all over the bike paths of Kiawah.  We watched the sunset from our balcony while drinking  champagne in our bathrobes, had an incredible dinner at The Ocean Room, and indulged in the Sunday Jazz Brunch at the Jasmine Porch.  We were lucky that the February weather was warm enough for some beach and pool time, and we were graced with one of the biggest full moons I’ve ever seen for a moonlit walk before dinner.  I didn’t check my email or think about work for 2 whole days.  The Sanctuary truly is exactly that… a relaxing island oasis.
